Admins and their rights
What it is
Whoever creates a group owns it and can make members admins, choosing each one's rights: change group info, delete messages, ban users, invite users via link, pin messages, manage topics, stories and video chats, edit members' tags, manage the welcome message, add new admins. Every admin sees Recent Actions, a 48-hour log that keeps deleted messages and the original text of edited ones, and ignores slow mode.
How to do it
- Open the admin list. iOS: tap the group photo › Edit › Administrators. Android:… Open the admin list. iOS: tap the group photo › Edit › Administrators. Android: tap the group name › pencil icon › Administrators. Desktop: … › Manage group › Administrators.
- Tap Add Admin (Add Administrator on Android) and choose a member.
- Set the rights. Add a tag shown next to their messages, or turn on Remain… Set the rights. Add a tag shown next to their messages, or turn on Remain Anonymous to post as the group, hidden from the member list.
- To hand the group over, give one admin every right, then tap Transfer Group Ownership.
Watch out
- Add New Admins lets an admin promote others with a subset of their own rights and remove only admins they appointed, directly or down the chain.
- A tag is up to 16 characters, with no emoji.
- Transferring ownership needs Two-Step Verification; your password and your login on that device must both be over 24 hours old.
- Leaving as owner, pick the new owner in the leave dialog, or ownership passes to one of the admins after a week.
With Gem
Gem doesn't appoint or manage your admins. When you connect a group via /myprojects › Chats › + Group, Telegram adds @gembot as an admin with the rights it needs, and Gem checks them.
