Invite links and join requests for a channel
What it is
Every channel has a main invite link. Owners and admins can add more, each with a name, a time limit, a cap on users or admin approval, and see who joined through each. With approval on, people who open the link send a join request; admins see their public profile photos and bio, then approve or dismiss them.
How to do it
- Open the channel profile › Edit (iOS), pencil icon (Android) or … › Manage Channel (Desktop) › Invite Links.
- Tap Create a New Link. Name it, then set Limit By Time Period and Limit By… Tap Create a New Link. Name it, then set Limit By Time Period and Limit By Number Of Users, or turn on Request Admin Approval.
- Tap ⋯ (⋮ on Android) next to a link to copy, share or Get QR Code.
- Requests appear in a bar at the top of the channel and under Join Requests in its settings: approve or dismiss each one.
- Revoke switches a link off.
- Welcome Message, in the same settings, greets each newcomer with messages only they see.
Watch out
- A link with admin approval can't cap users; other links cap at 1 to 99,999.
- A revoked link stops working at once.
- Links with a monthly fee in Stars can't use admin approval.
- Only your first 200 subscribers can be added by hand.
With Gem
When you connect a channel in /myprojects › Chats › + Channel, Gem makes its join-request link, the «door», and approves requests by your project's rules and each person's language; a request to the other language's channel is declined and the person gets the right one. Your rules can also act when someone asks to join, joins or leaves.
