Sort your chats with folders and the archive
What it is
Folders turn your chat list into tabs such as Work, Channels or Unread; a chat can sit in several. The Archive is a hidden folder for chats you keep but rarely need.
How to do it
- Open Settings › Chat Folders (Desktop: Settings › Folders) › Create New Folder and name it.
- Tap Add Chats and pick single chats or whole types: Contacts,… Tap Add Chats and pick single chats or whole types: Contacts, Non-Contacts, Groups, Channels, Bots. Under Excluded Chats you can leave out Muted, Read or Archived ones.
- To share a folder, long-press its tab › Share and pick the chats for the invite link.
- To archive a chat, swipe it left › Archive (iOS, Android) or right-click it › Archive chat (Desktop).
- Swipe left on the Archive to hide it; pull the chat list down to bring it back.
Watch out
- Free accounts get 10 folders of up to 100 chats; Premium allows more, up to 200 chats per folder. When Premium ends, the first 10 folders keep working.
- You can pin 5 chats in the main list, 10 with Premium. Folders and the Archive take more pins.
- An unmuted archived chat returns to the main list with its next message; muted ones stay. To keep it archived, turn on Always keep archived in Archive Settings.
- Shared folders hold only groups and channels, picked one by one, not by type. Free: 2 of up to 100 chats; Premium: 20 of up to 200.
